Introducing the New WeTransfer
Posted 8 months ago — Matthew Haynes
WeTransfer is a simple, secure file transfer service that showcases beautiful advertisements while you wait.
To make simple better, we're proud to launch the New WeTransfer beta. The New WeTransfer boasts many new features.
WeTransfer believes in a service that is clutter-free, simple, and spreads inspiration. Applying this criteria, we've created a space and experience that users can connect to. WeTransfer uses nearly the entire screen as a canvas displaying art, design, products, and music to those using the service. Adding features while keeping our service simple was a difficult task. We believe the New WeTransfer is a step forward, offering more space & features for users who need it, and a better functionality without us getting in the way.
Bootstrapped since day one, WeTransfer has always been self funded, and through it all we've steadily grown our financial stability. We've broken even every quarter since Q3 in 2011, and this year we passed 600K revenue in Q2 alone.
We've improved our backend as well. Since 2009, WeTransfer has sent over 193 million transfers. Last month WeTransfer provided transfers for over 8 million users, an astonishing number we're still buzzing over. We're humbled to know that we've grown larger than some of the companies we look up to, including Basecamp, Path, and Wunderlist. We're close to being the biggest transfer service on the web, surpassing the number of files sent through similar competitors and beating out Yousendit in some parts of the world.
The New WeTransfer beta now offers the Plus service.
Plus gives you the amazing ability to send a simple, secure, and not to mention whopping 5GB transfer. Big transfers need to be secure, so to ensure your files are sent properly we're also offering resumable downloads that let you continue where you left off–just in case you need to shut that laptop and run out the door. Plus also provides space to store your files indefinitely, offering up to 50GB of online storage. Other features include an address book, sharing via Twitter and Facebook, password protection, and the ability to send files to 100 recipients.
We still offer simple, 2GB transfers for free with no need to register. We still have beautiful wallpapers. Yet WeTransfer isn't content sitting around while the others innovate. We know some of our biggest users need a bit more. We've done so while retaining our simple, inspirational interface.
The New WeTransfer will be made available to users by invitation over the coming weeks. The beta is expected to replace the current version of WeTransfer in around 10 weeks time.
Both the Plus and Channels service are available for $120 a year. Setup is fast and simple, just as WeTransfer has always been.
