DIA - Bubble and Speak

Posted 8 months agoMatthew Haynes

We attended DIA's Bubble and Speak on the Gold Coast this week. For those who have never never been, Bubble and Speak is a two course breakfast featuring creative power houses who speak about their work and belief systems. This edition of Bubble and Speak featured creative stylist Christian Wagstaff and world re-known architect Shaun Lockyer.

Massive thanks go out to DIA for the invite. My expectations were blown out of the water. From the food to the feature presenters. Five stars!

The next Bubble and Speak Inspiration Breakfast is on Thursday, 18 October 2012 and features Toko / Concept.Design. & Photographer Todd Hunter McGaw

Eva Dijkstra and Michael Lugmayr
Toko / Concept.Design.

Established in 2002 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and since 2008, permanently operating out of Sydney, Australia, Toko’s creative output can be appreciated through an extensive portfolio of work realized for both national and international clients in a diverse range of fields. While clearly rooted in Australia, Toko’s approach is informed by its rich heritage in the Dutch-European culture of design and art. In line with those traditions, the studio’s philosophy and creative process follows a distinctive conceptual approach in which critical thought, innovation, and collaborations are key. Concepts are derived from extensive research to develop contemporary, distinctive and considered design solutions, often challenging it’s visual application, playful, unexpected and minimalist. Recent projects include environmental graphics and exhibition identity for The Powerhouse Museum’s major exhibition ‘Love Lace’; event styles for Ten Days
arts festival Tasmania and Sydney Design 2011; fashion related design projects for Dutch Fashion Here & Now presented at the Shanghai Fashion Week 2011 and design and art-direction for the magazines CODE and Poster. For the Australian Institute of Architects, Toko developed the event styles for the National Architecture Awards Australia and the National Architecture Conference Parallax, followed by Toko’s most recent appointment by the Institute as one of the creative partners (with: Anthony Burke and Gerard Reinmuth) for the Australian exhibition at the 13th International Venice Architecture Biennale, co-developing the exhibition and creating the design and branding.

Todd Hunter McGaw
Photographer

Todd was born in Brisbane. Upon finishing high school, he wandered the streets of the modern working world looking for his place. This unusually long journey eventually led him to wedding photography. It was very unexpected. He says, “being a wedding photographer was not something that I pursued…it was like trying on a pair of pants that you wouldn’t normally buy, and finding out that they fit you better than any pants you’d ever worn in your whole life. Like super pants”. Today, he and his amazingly intelligent and attractive wife run their business from their home studio in Newmarket. Todd is known for his ‘unweddingy’ wedding images, bringing new levels of creativity to a traditional and overwhelmingly domestic genre. Industry recognition in 2011/12 include the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers) titles of, QLD Wedding Photographer of the Year, QLD Wedding Album of the Year, & Australian Travel Photographer of the Year. Todd also received highly commended for “writing your own bio in the 3rd person”. (unconfirmed)
